One of the highlights of 7th grade year is a grammar cup. It's a legacy left to us by our fellow educator, Nathan Garvin. We miss you, Nathan! (He's teaching up north now, but before he left, he managed to instill in us the awesomeness of the Garvin Cup).
The Grammar Cup is a way we get our students involved, engaged, and interested in...grammar. Surprise! Students are split into teams of 3-5, they make up their own team name, create a flag, and then the challenges begin. Each day, students learn new grammar concepts. This year's picks are subjects, predicates, conjunctions, clauses, and simple, compound, and complex sentences. After learning about a concept, students compete in various challenges to reinforce their learning and earn points. The team with the highest amount of points at the end of the Cup wins a spot on the Wall of Eternal Fame and bragging rights. Students can also earn points by turning in homework, being on task, etc. It's a great way to get students engaged. Stay tuned for some of our challenges.
